'tis the season for a ghost story
Welcome to Ghostcreek Hollow
While The Stinkwater Escapee takes a brief rest this weekend, I wanted to share something else I’ve written that’s less slapstick, more kid. And being the season, I wanted to tell a ghost story.
Ghostcreek Hollow creaks open with Will, one of a group of kids who live in a fictional pocket of real-world Winnipeg. Set in the same living world as my upcoming short story, Things That Need Doin’ (Icelandic Connection, 2026), it mirrors the grief, friendship, and subtle magic that can feel all too real sometimes.
This story is part one in a (currently) three-part arc. Two parts are already written, one still waiting for the dance of my keyboard. Together they trace a journey from loss to clarity, from fear to something like wonder.
If The Stinkwater Escapee has been a long, laughing exhale, I’m hoping Ghostcreek Hollow is a slow, quiet breath lit by a jack-o’-lantern.
Join me this Saturday at 9:30 AM for Ghostcreek Hollow: Part One.
If you want to read the The Magician of Ghostcreek Hollow, the second part in Will’s arc, subscribe and I’ll send you the link when it’s ready. If enough readers are interested , I may release the story here on readthestars.ca.
Mom, Dad, whoever is reading this before the kids, read Ghostcreek Hollow first and gather your thoughts. This story is a good example of much of my writing. It can feel brutally real, but perhaps it can open doors to conversations that matter. Or you can just enjoy it as a story. As fiction, it’s yours to take what you want from it.
So grab your favorite drink, dim the lights, and settle in. This is the first of many stories that can help us laugh, and that help us remember why we keep going.
I hope this one does both.
The Stinkwater Escapee returns…
